Well, I joined the club a couple of weeks ago. The 50+ club that is. I find it curious that one of the most common comments/questions I got was around whether I was doing ok with it. Really? I think it’s fabulous! I haven’t given a second thought to the fact that I’m actually a half century old, I honestly think life just keeps getting better as I get older. I realize I’m not old by any standard…well, maybe by the standard of a 20-year old…but I’d like to think I have a fair amount of learnings/experience/wisdom under my belt. Plus I can still do a cartwheel.

My quick assessment of being 50 is this. It’s not that much different than being 49, but one of my favorite clients told me recently when she heard my big birthday was coming up, “The 50s is the decade you kick ass and take names.” She said this from experience and with fond appreciation of that time in her life. I’m new to it so realize I still have much of my 50s to experience and learn from, but I do know it is rewarding to get to a point where you know what you want and what’s important to you, and know exactly what you’re willing to do (or not do) to get there. All of life seems to get more aligned and permission to say no, or yes, seems to come more easily. Friendships become more special – they are based more on a true appreciation of each other and less on convenience – and values continue to develop with more clarity. Of course, it’s not a magical switch that flips when you turn 50 – all of these things can and do happen at all ages, but as we get older, I believe we do get wiser, as cliché as that sounds. I’m excited to see what the next decade brings, and look forward to experiencing new things with my friends, family and clients. Thanks to all who are a part of my journey!
